General Managers Elected

The General Assembly of the Magnificat Community, composed of the Elders and Moderators of its component Fraternities and Zones, on Sunday, February 10, 2019, in Rome, elected the new general managers who will serve in the 2019-2022 triennium.

Elected were Giuseppe Piegai, Maria Rita Castellani, Stefano Ragnacci, Teresa Ciociola and Vicenzo Genovese.

The approximately fifty participants had been gathered since the previous day. The retreat had begun with the Eucharistic Celebration, presided over by Father Victor-Emilian Dumitrescu, general spiritual counselor of the Magnificat Community. The outgoing moderator general, Daniele Mezzetti, had then given a talk recounting his three years of service together with the other leaders. The theme of the internationalization of the Community and the accompaniment it is receiving from the Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life for the approval of the new Statute characterized the first part. Daniel had then touched on the themes of the challenges on the horizon, opening for the assembly a time of broad sharing in which participants were able to bring their own contributions for reflection. Eucharistic Adoration had then concluded the first day of the retreat.

On Sunday morning Father Victor gave a profound catechesis on listening to God’s will to prepare the assembly for the passage of the election of new leaders, which took place during the presence of the solemnly exposed Eucharistic Jesus.

Also elected were the seven general council members who will support the general managers during the next three years: Andrea Orsini, Luigi Montesi, Susanna Bettelli, Oreste Pesare, Daniele Mezzetti, Francesco Fressoia and Massimo Roscini.

The morning ended with the Eucharistic Celebration presided over by Fr. Luca Bartoccini. The Gospel of the day, taken from the Gospel of Luke, proved particularly enlightening: “When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, ‘Put out to sea and cast your nets for fishing.’

May the Magnificat Community respond fully, like Simon Peter, to the Lord’s invitation, “On His Word I will cast my nets,” and correspond more and more to the Lord’s call to His own “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature” (Mark, 16:15).
