Alessandra Maria Pauluzzi is the new general moderator of the Magnificat Community. She was elected at theGeneral Assembly held in Montesilvano of Pescara Jan. 2-4. Also chosen with her were the other four general managers who will serve for the next three years: Giacomo Lancini, of the Brescia Fraternity of Maguzzano (diocese of Verona), a permanent deacon, 56, married, allied since 2006; Federico Luisi, of the Pisa Fraternity of Marti (diocese of San Miniato), 47, married, allied since 2010; Angelo Spicuglia, deacon of the Syracuse Fraternity, 52, married, ally since 2006; Agneza Țîmpu, of the Romanian Fraternity “Betleem” of Popeşti-Leordeni, 52, ally of Agnus Dei, member of the Community since 2009. Alessandra Pauluzzi, on the other hand, belongs to the Perugia Fraternity of St. Barnabas: 60 years old, married, has been an ally since 1986 and has seen the Community grow since 1980.

The new leaders come from different geographical areas, not just Italy, a sign of the steps the Community has taken in recent years.

The seven elected to the College of Consultors are: Paolo Bartoccini, Maria Rita Castellani, Father Victor-Emilian Dumitrescu, Daniele Mezzetti, Giuseppe Piegai, Stefano Ragnacci and Daniela Saetta,

Giorgio Brustenga was elected as general treasurer.

At the end of the proceedings, the assembly gathered in prayer around the new general managers, asking for the light of the Holy Spirit for them in their mandate of service.

The work of the general assembly

“The election,” explains outgoing moderator Maria Rita Castellani, “took place within the framework of the general assembly, which saw the involvement of all allies in a capillary and representative manner through the new figure of Fraternity delegates and through greater sharing that took place in the Fraternities in which each brother and sister was called upon to give their own contribution regarding the themes that were then examined by the assembly itself. Work was done in an atmosphere of discussion and communion on the draft regulations for the life of the Community and on some modalities in the Discipleship Journey. The gift of listening is the condition for being “one” in diversity. If we are not “one,” our evangelization programs will be useless and we will not be credible.”

The new season of the Community

“After the approval ad experimentum of the Statute by the Vatican Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life in December 2023,” Castellani adds, “for the Community a season marked by a new identity in the Church opened. it was an important turning point, I say this thinking of our international dimension. I cite an example: for the Fraternities present in Romania, for example, the bishops were waiting for a formal recognition and guarantee; the Archbishop of Bucharest, Aurel Percă, asked the Magnificat Community present in his diocese to organize Seminaries of New Life with priests and in parishes.” “The authoritative voice of the Holy See,” Castellani concludes, “confirming our vocation not only opens up a new possibility for us to dialogue with the clergy in the dioceses where the Fraternities are located, but it is also a recognized identity card that gives us greater responsibility.
