Community a
They will listen to my voice and become one flock, one shepherd
John 10:16
In the early years there was no talk of “one” Magnificat Community, but “of” Magnificat Communities. Each reality that arose in the various places starting from Perugia lived on its own and, although sharing the same vocation and sharing many things with the others, it did not have a formal unity with them, which came only in 1991, when four senior brothers were elected as leaders, as a sign of the community’s oneness; that first initiative, however, foundered.
Still a statute that would give depth to this new way of walking together was lacking, and in 1995, under the careful direction of Monsignor Ennio Antonelli, the Community received both recognition as a private association of lay faithful as well as approval of the statute, and then the first five general managers were elected. The Community has since then recognized this body as a sign of the unity of the whole Magnificat Community.
They are primarily responsible for these tasks:
- Establish initiatives to pursue the purposes of the Community by transmitting its spiritual heritage;
- Prepare the annual Growth Path;
- To carry out all acts of ordinary and extraordinary administration necessary to achieve the purposes of the Community;
- Decide on the establishment or suppression of fraternities and fraternities in formation.
The general managers move in their actions according to the directives that emerge from the Statute and from what the General Assembly – composed of the general managers themselves, the moderators of all the fraternities, the general treasurer and, for one third, elders – establishes as the general directions to be pursued.
To help the general managers there are then other general bodies serving the whole community:
- The College of Counseling
- The General Spiritual Counselor
- General Services: Youth Team, Spiritual Accompaniment, Agnus Dei Allies, Discipleship, Covenant Formation, Koinonia, Missions, Music and Singing
