Shared living houses
… they were together
Acts 2:44
And they had everything in common
The history of common life in the Magnificat Community began on February 11, 1985, already with its own specific identity: that of having the Eucharist, Eucharistic adoration, at its center. The first allies of the Magnificat Community who began to live together welcomed this call to be worshippers of theLamb of God. And the Lord wanted to accompany with his presence every move that took place over time, going “from tent to tent,” that is, moving with the small community of life in more than one move. Even in Horseshoe, on the outskirts of Perugia, in the current community house, Archbishop Giuseppe Chiaretti, in 2004, allowed the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, kept in the small chapel of the apartment.
Communal life began with Ginette Girardet and Fernanda (Wanda) Rossi near Our Lady of Light Church, which has been open for continuous Eucharistic Adoration worship daily since Oct. 15, 1984.
Wanda entered the house on Via del Poggio on Feb. 11, 1985 (the memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Lourdes), when the then Archbishop of Perugia-Città della Pieve Monsignor Cesare Pagani blessed the home. Ginette arrived there a few days later.
Guiding the beginnings of this common life experience was Father Raniero Cantalamessa, who was a point of reference for more than ten years.
On Dec. 13, 1989, Wanda was consecrated with her three vows in the hands of Archbishop Archbishop Ennio Antonelli, a consecration that took place after Ginette’s private vows.
Life in the house of communal living
The life that Community allies lead in the house takes place within a normal daily routine, in simplicity and sobriety of life, sharing spiritual and material goods.
In addition to the meetings provided by the Magnificat Community Path, there are times of communal prayer in the house, such as the Liturgy of the Hours, and times of personal prayer.
The care of the home is entrusted to the responsibility of all the people in it, with shifts in household chores and various services: the order of the person and the home thus becomes the mirror of one’s soul, the place where God dwells.
The lives of people in the house are coordinated by a moderator.
