A new book from Magnificat Editions
When Faith Enchants Reason
Giulia Gurisatti, ally of the Fraternity of Foligno, recounts her journey from agnosticism to the Catholic Faith.
The pages of this book by Giulia Gurisatti offer readers a journey. It is the same journey that the author has taken in her very rich life experience, lived between Colombia and Italy, between two shores that are distant from each other: from uncertainty about God, to embracing him.
Julia writes seven letters to Susana Lopez, an agnostic friend; like an older sister, she takes her by the hand as she accompanies her in reflecting on the ultimate questions of existence until she shows her the certainty she has arrived at.
Julia recounts that in reflecting on herself, she walked a path marked by two tracks, that of Reason and that of Faith, which she calls “Left Side” e “right side“.
In the flow of letters, the author addresses, one after the other, twelve themes that the agnostic and rationalist mindset considers taboo: life beyond death; God the Creator; Son of God crucified; evil and sin; Jesus way, life and truth; divine Trinity; Church; Devil; salvation; resurrection; sacrifice and suffering; transubstantiation. Each of these realities-as happened in Julia’s own story, which serves as the plot of the ideal journey described-is put under the scrutiny of rationality, that typical of the agnostic, to consider whether that statement of faith might be, instead, true.
It is a continuous discovery, the one that Reason is led to verify. And, as you scroll through the pages, the wonder increases as you climb the steps that lead to unexpected and wonderful vistas, as the sun invades the landscape and illuminates everything.
Julia tells a story and tells of her ascent toward the simple realization that everything makes sense, that everything, in God, finds its place and its space, as the restless soul achieves peace.
