Charismatic community prayer
When you gather,
1 Corinthians 14:26
one has a psalm,
Another has a teaching;
one has a revelation,
One has the gift of tongues,
Another has that of interpreting them:
all take place for the edification
Each fraternity, every week, gathers in prayer around the Lord Jesus to hear His Word.
From here the entire life of the Fraternity takes its origin, strength and direction.
A community time lived in God’s presence in praise, worshiping God, listening to his Word, to respond to his invitation.
The prayer, open to anyone who wishes to join the Fraternity at that time, is held in a simple and joyful style, following the style of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. It is a time filled with spiritual songs – praise or meditative -, the Word of God and the voice of all those present, both in choral and personal form.
The Holy Spirit is invoked for him to guide the meeting, so there is never a fixed pattern of the prayer itself: one waits for the Lord to act as he wishes in the body of the assembled brothers and sisters through each of them, certain that through spontaneous prayer and the charism of prophecy, a “conversation” will develop between the assembled assembly and the Lord who summoned it.
This experience sees in the words addressed by Paul to the Corinthians its point of reference: “When you gather together, one has a psalm, another has a teaching; one has a revelation, one has the gift of tongues, another has the gift of interpreting them: let everything take place for edification. When one speaks with the gift of tongues, let two, or at most three, speak, one at a time, and let there be one to act as interpreter. If there is no one to interpret, let each one be silent in the assembly and speak only to himself and to God. Let the prophets speak in two or three and let the others judge. But if then one of those present receives a revelation, let the first be silent: for one at a time you may all prophesy, that all may learn and be exhorted. The inspirations of the prophets are subservient to the prophets, for God is not a God of disorder, but of peace ” (1 Corinthians 14:26-33).
It is up to the fraternity leaders to make sure that the meeting is conducted in an orderly and spiritually fruitful manner for all who attend.
The Word of God that characterizes the meeting, received in simplicity and read in sequence over the course of the weeks, not infrequently forms a real “speech of God” made to the Fraternity, indicating the point of community conversion or the priority on which to focus. Experience has shown the Community how in such moments the Lord allows Himself to be encountered, especially by those who participate for the first time, feeling the living presence of God in that assembly, speaking and acting. Therefore, the weekly charismatic community prayer meeting is one of the main ways the Fraternity has to evangelize.
